Hi. I am a Lecturer at the University of Essex Business School. My research is broadly focused on the intersection of ethics, technology, and the workplace. I like to approach questions of social philosophy and ethics through empirical observation of workplaces and employment settings. My work right now covers three topics:

Theories of social freedom. I am writing a monograph titled ‘A Return to Freedom: the republican antidote to neoliberal hegemony’ under advanced contract with SUNY Press. It comparatively analyses libertarian and republican theories of freedom based on the experiences of independent contractors and standard employees.

Global AI regulation and the world of work. I am working on a practical tool for mapping regulatory progress and gaps around AITs in the workplace in collaboration with the ILO Research Department.

Critical Technology Studies. I am working on two projects that explore the ethical implications of the integration of AI into the social world. The first considers how algorithmic management, particularly as it is used in workplaces, undermines individual liberty. The second deals with the limits of right-based approaches to defining ethical AI.
